The news coming out of South Sudan right now is not good! Half of Sudan’s 11.3 million people face starvation and millions of these are children.
On May 29th, the Government of Canada announced that for every dollar given by Canadians towards famine relief and prevention, they will give $1 to assist as well. Thanks to our partnership with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, when you give to relieve famine through World Relief, your dollar is now worth even more! The math works like this.
$1 from you
+ $3 through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank
+ $1 for Canadian Famine relief fund
= 5 for South Sudan
World Relief has been on the front lines of serving those most at risk of death or permanent damage. Our partnerships with the World Food Program, Sudanese Aid workers, the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and the Government of Canada means we are trusted and have been able to react quickly and effectively to reach the most vulnerable, on both sides of the conflict. Phase 1 of our response to distribute millions of high nutrition food supplements have been fully funded by you. By September 2017, millions of packets of Plumpy’Nut would have been distributed by World Relief to those who need it most.
Based on stories we have heard and the need we’ve seen over the last weeks and months, we have now committed another full year to this emergency. Working with a sister agency, Tearfund U.K, we will expand to serve those in the second area of South Sudan that is officially in severe famine.
This multi-million integrated program expands food assistance alongside an excellent water, sanitation and hygiene program in camps for internally displaced people. This will make sure that those who have regained strength, are not exposed to the risks of polluted water.
We need to raise another $2 million to continue to provide food, and ensure safe water and sanitation facilities to the millions displaced by famine and war.
World Relief has been working in South Sudan for 20 years. Now, we must stay, to support for our Sudanese brothers and sisters in their most difficult hour of need.
Today we are asking you to stay with us through this needed commitment.
